Nattokinase is an enzyme isolated from Natto, a traditional Japanese fermented soy food. Natto is comprised of boiled soybeans fermented with Bacillus natto but has not been seen to have estrogenic activity.
Natto has been consumed safely for thousands of years for its numerous health benefits. More recently, both clinical and non-clinical studies have demonstrated that nattokinase supports heart health and promotes healthy circulation. Nattokinase is a fibrinolytic enzyme that decreases platelet aggregation.
Nattokinase works by inactivating plasminogen activator inhibitor 1. It is believed to have four times greater fibrinolytic activity than plasmin. Due to its fibrinolytic activity at the blood vessel wall, Nattokinase is often recommended because it is believed to help support a healthy vascular system.
